2023 COPPINI ACADEMY OF FINE ART JURIED FALL MEMBER SHOW

NOTE:  There is no online registration for this show.  You will register in person when you bring in your submissions Oct 9, 1-6 pm

ELIGIBILITY
Open to all Coppini Academy of Fine Art (CAFA) members in good standing. New members may apply for CAFA membership prior to the time of their competition submissions. See CAFA's website (www.thecoppini.org) for the required membership fees and forms. To honor the sculptor and our benefactor, Pompeo Coppini, only representational art is accepted for this competition.

 

DATES/ENTRY FEES
1. The CAFA Members' Juried Competition is scheduled for October 13, 2023. The competition's artwork will be displayed upstairs in CAFA's Gallery. The gallery will be open to the public October 14,  from 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm, with an Opening Reception to be held 5: 30 - 8:30 pm on the evening of October 13.
2. Artwork submitted for the competition will be limited to a maximum of 3 pieces per artist. The competition is $30 for each artist, regardless of the number of artworks submitted. Entry fees will be paid by check, cash or credit card at the time the artwork is dropped off for the competition. Checks should be made payable to the Coppini Academy of Fine Art.
3. Artwork can be delivered to CAFA Gallery (upstairs) Oct 9,  between the hours of 1:00 - 6:00 pm. Each artist must submit a registration form, with competition fees and identification/price tags for each artwork entered into the competition.   These will be available at the time of in-person registration.  Artwork must be for sale and hung in the gallery for the duration of the competition--no exceptions or waivers will be granted, Artwork not received during the specified dates and times will not be eligible for the competition.
4. Artwork not selected for the competition can be picked up October 11, between the hours of 1:00 - 6:00 pm.
5. The reception will be held on October 13, between 5:30 - 8:30 pm. Awards will be presented at 7:00 pm. Coppini members and non-members are cordially invited to the reception. During the reception, attendees may vote for the "People's Choice Award".
NOTE: Best of Show winner will not be eligible for the People's Choice Award", The
People's Choice Award will be announced no later than 7:15 pm.
6. CAFA Gallery will be open to the public October 14; 1:00- 6:00 pm.
7. Artwork not sold during the exhibition can be picked up October 15  between
1:00 6:00 pm.

 

MEDIA / SPECIFICATIONS
I. Artwork will be accepted for the following categories:
1. Drawing (includes charcoal, graphite pencil, silverpoint, pen & ink, and colored pencils)
2. Paintings (oils / acrylics / encaustic / cold wax / tempera)
3. Pastels (oil and chalk)
4. Watercolor (includes watercolor, alcohol ink, and gouache)
5. Sculpture (includes bronze, stone, finished plaster, water-based clay,  kiln fired)
NOTE: Reproductions are prohibited for this competition
II. All entries must be original artwork, not previously hung in any past CAFA Members' Juried Exhibitions. By submitting the artwork, the artist certifies that he/she holds the copyright for the piece(s) and the copyright remains with the artist.
III. Two-dimensional (2D) artworks will not exceed 72" in height and 48" in width (including the frame). Artwork frames exceeding the dimensions will not hang. All paint and varnish must be dry prior to submission. Gallery-wrapped canvasses can be submitted without frames, but canvas depth must be 1 1/2" or greater, and sides must be
suitably painted to present a professional appearance. All other artwork will be suitable

framed (Plexiglas is preferred, but glass is acceptable) and ready to hang by wire or D-
rings. No saw tooth or clip on frames will be accepted. NOTE: All 2D artwork

submissions must adhere to the same rules as specified, regardless of media.
IV. Three-dimensional (3D) works may not exceed 40" x 30" x 30" and no heavier than
50 pounds with suitable base for display. Sculptures must be suitable for indoor display.

V. Competition identification / Price cards must be visibly exposed to all customers.
VI. Competition committee reserves the right to disallow any work if it fails to meet the
specified criteria, or, if necessary, in the interest of safety and inability to handle the piece
because of weight or size.

 

AWARDS
1. Each winner will be presented a monetary prize and a ribbon. The ribbon will be attached to the artwork while displayed in the Gallery. Upon sale of the artwork, ribbons will be returned to the artist.
2. Ribbons and monetary awards will be given to artists in the following categories:
a. "Best of Show" -- $1000
b. "People's Choice Award -- $500
c. First Place for each category -- $250 (x 5 categories)
d. Second Place for each category -- $100 (x 5 categories)
e. Third Place for each category -- $75 ( x 5 categories)
NOTE 1: "Best of Show" winner will not be eligible for any other awards, to include the "People's Choice Award".
NOTE 2: All other award winners will be limited to one award per category and will be eligible for the People's Choice Award.
NOTE 3: The judge has the prerogative of not awarding one or more awards per category, if the judge deems no artwork suitable for an award.
NOTE 4: A minimum of 5 submissions per category are required for a 3rd place award.

 

LIABILITY
CAFA takes every precaution to protect all artwork submitted to this exhibition. However, CAFA is not responsible for loss or damage to the work. By submitting the artwork to this competition, the artist has agreed to accept this condition. All possible care will be used in handling the piece(s). Artists should insure their own work and are responsible for contacting their own insurance agent , if deemed necessary.

 

PERMISSION and AGREEMENT

By submitting an entry, the artist has agreed to all of the competitions criteria as specified in the above paragraphs. In addition, the artist grants permission for the Coppini Member's Fall Competition Coordinator or designated representative(s) to use images of the accepted artwork in the CAFA's newsletter, website, brochures, social media sites, and promotional materials, as well as articles about the competition submitted to newspapers, magazines, or TV programs. Every effort will be taken to insure the images adequately depict the artwork, but the artist recognizes that electronic medium and printers may unintentionally affect the images outcome.
